Cowboys vs Redskins Preview

When the Dallas Cowboys play the Washington Redskins this game is not like it use to be. Yes these two teams still have a rivalry, but not like it use to be. The Washington Redskins have struggled the last few years and even the Dallas Cowboys are not the same team they have been in recent years. Lets take a closer look at this game and what I would like to see the Cowboys do.
The Cowboys need to start to run the ball on a more consistent basis. They key is getting Marion Barber and Felix Jones more touches. Unless the Cowboys start to run the ball better then more pressure will be put on Tony Romo. By running the ball you will be able to open up the offense a lot more. Roy Williams also needs to be a big part of the offense and one way to do that is to get him early touches and that will keep his head in the game.
Defensively the Cowboys need to pressure Jason Campbell as much as possible. Campbell in recent years has had good games against the Cowboys defense so he will have a lot of confidence going into the game. He does not seem to make good decisions when you put pressure on him. Shutting the running game down is also something the Cowboys will need to do.
My prediction is the Cowboys should have no problem winning this game. I like the Cowboys by a 24-14 score. The Redskins have struggled all year long and I look for that to continue in this game as well. Unless the Cowboys turn the ball over a lot they should have no problem with the redskins.

Barber Or Jones Time To Decide

In the greater scheme of things if you want to have a balance offense you need to be able to run the ball on a consistent basis. The Dallas Cowboys actually have three good running backs in Marion barber, Tashard Choice, and Felix Jones. The biggest problem is at fullback. No matter what team you go to that runs the ball well or has in the past you will notice one thing and that is a good blocking fullback. Lorenzo Neal was one of the great ones and the Cowboys have had some Scott Laidlaw, Robert Newhouse just to name a few as there were many.
Right now if you look at Felix Jones and Marion barber they are close in rushing yardage which is great, but in reality a good blocking fullback would give them even more yardage. There are other reasons why you need a good blocking fullback besides running the ball. They help pick up blitzes and are great receivers usually out of the backfield when called upon. If you look at some of the teams that over the years have run the ball extremely well they usually have a great fullback leading the way.
This leads me to the choice between Felix Jones and Marion Barber. I think it is time the Dallas Cowboys stand up and make a decision about one of these guys. Who is going to be the back of the future for you. I feel both are talented, but rarely does a two back set ever work in the NFL. Trading one away to get help in other areas on the team would be my choice. The Dallas Cowboys have to make a choice soon between the two. personally I am leaning to Marion Barber and his style of running. No matter which back the Cowboys choose they still need to get a proved blocking back to lead the way for them.

Time For The Cowboys To Go Back To It's Roots

Today we are going to start a series of what the Dallas Cowboys need to do to get back on top. First let's start with one of the most important aspect of the Dallas Cowboys that I think is very overlooked and that is coaching. In the last few years the Dallas Cowboys have not had a guy that in my mind you could really call a good coach. Jimmy Johnson and Tom Landry is really the last guys that come to mind. Both knew exactly what needed to be done and they were not afraid to do it. The coaches that the Cowboys recently have hired really had no grasp of what it means to be a Dallas Cowboys coach or how to go about it and that is sad.
Many people really think Tom Landry and Jimmy Johnson were total opposites, but the truth is they were similar in many aspects. Both wanted to win they just went about it different ways with success. Most people will tell you both did it their own way and both had a track record of success. Now until the Dallas Cowboys and Jerry Jones hire someone in that type of mode they will struggle to get back to the top. Many people wonder who the Cowboys could hire. That is a question I have been pondering when I started writing this series. Mike Shanahan is a coach many people have mentioned, but not my choice.
Now many people will not like my choice, but he is a former Dallas Cowboy and a former Arena League coach that Cowboy fans would be receptive towards. My choice would be for Jerry Jones to bring in Danny White to coach the Dallas Cowboys. He coached in the Arena League take his team to three straight Arena Bowl Championships even though he lost all of them. He played under Tom Landry and still understands how today's players are. I do not know if Danny White would consider the job, but he would be my choice. I know many people want Jason Garrett, but I just do not think he is the guy to run the Cowboys.
In our next post we are going to look at the running backs and why we need to make changes here as well. The changes may just surprise some Cowboy fans.

Tom Landry Class Act
Here is a video someone posted on Youtube that you will see Tom Landry in a little different light then we are use to. Tom Landry was one coach who does not get the credit that he deserves. It seems when people talk about great coaches people seem to overlook Tom Landry and that is a shame. In my opinion without a doubt he deserves to be in the Top 10. Enjoy the video.
Dallas Cowboys Got Frozen In Green Bay
Well the one thing that you can say about the Dallas Cowboys is they are a work in progress, but the question is what kind of work. After playing well for a couple of weeks they came out and layed an egg in Green Bay. Green Bay dominated the Cowboys especially on defense. In fact the Cowboys struggled against a Green Bay Packers defense that could not stop the Tampa Bay Buccaneers a week ago. The Buccaneers are not good, but they beat the Packers. I guess the Dallas Cowboys need to make some changes and that means in the off-season.
One of the first things the Dallas Cowboys must do is get rid of Wade Phillips. Phillips is a good guy and everything, but he is not the coach for this team. They are not improving and I will be surprised if he is retained. Jerry Jones likes Phillips, but a change is needed. Roy Williams is another guy the Cowboys must decide what to do with. Will him and Romo ever get on the same page. Right now the Dallas Cowboys have so many problems and in future posts we will address each one.

Cowboys Stop Panthers 21-7
Terence Newman returned an interception 27 yards for a lead-stretching touchdown with 5:07 left, then rookie linebacker Victor Butler got two sacks and forced a fumble on the next series, sending Dallas to a 21-7 victory over the Carolina Panthers on Monday night. Dallas (2-1) trailed 7-0 at halftime and was booed by fans. Although the defense was playing well and running backs Felix Jones and Tashard Choice were easing the load on Romo, the quarterback was being so careful to avoid the mistakes that doomed the Cowboys the previous week that the offense struggled to turn long drives into points.
The Dallas Cowboys still have not looked like no Super Bowl Contender if you ask me. They have struggled and it seems they continue to do that as well. Tony Romo looked average and to tell the truth I really do not know if he will be the quarterback that the Dallas Cowboys hope he will be. A win is a win I guess.

What's Next For the Cowboys After Cutting T.O, Williams

There have been many reports surfacing why T.O and safety Roy Williams were let go, but it really does not matter as you really do not know how much truth is in those reports. The Dallas Cowboys have cut ties with both of them so let us look at what this means for the Dallas Cowboys. First losing T.O. was big as now teams do not have to worry so much about double covering T.O. like they use too. This means it will be easier to defense the Cowboys and make it harder for the Cowboys to score points. The Cowboys receivers had a total of 29 touchdowns receiving and Owens had 10 of those. Several other players caught four, but no one was close to T.O. Owens was the only 1,000 yard receiver on the team as well, but Jason Witten was close, but took him 12 more catches to get that close.
For all his faults T.O. is a game breaker that makes people around him better. Roy Williams is a good player, but no T.O. In fact in five years in the league Roy Williams has only been over 1,000 yards once in his career and has yet to have a year with ten touchdowns or more. As you can see it is a big drop off from T.O. to Roy Williams, but something that Cowboy fans better get use too.
Defensively losing safety Roy Williams is another guy the Dallas Cowboys are going to miss. You do not replace a guy like this, but if he wanted out this tells you a lot about how bad the Cowboys are right now as a team. There is more going on inside the locker room than what people maybe telling everyone. Now that T.O. is gone many people have mentioned Tony Romo as a leader on the team which I just do not see. Leaders do not take a week off to go vacationing when he has a game coming up.
On the sidelines when T.O. was yelling at Romo he never stood up and said anything back. Romo had chances to be the go to guy and a guy who was a leader, but he choose to take the high road and that is a shame. T.O. was one of the reasons that Romo got a big fat contract and in my opinion so far he has not lived up to the money he is getting paid. I guess he will have his chance this season to show people he can lead the Cowboys by himself.
For me I hope cutting T.O. and safety Roy Williams work out for the Cowboys, but I do not really know. In the coming months I guess we will see what Jerry Jones and his coaches have up their sleeves and defensively our secondary is pretty weak. No Henry, Pacman Jones, or Roy Williams. Looks like it maybe a long season for Dallas Cowboy fans.

Safety Roy Williams Given His Wish Cut By Cowboys
It seems Jerry Jones is cleaning house first it was T.O. now safety Roy Williams got his pink slip. Roy Williams was asked to me let go which should tell you something about how dysfunctional the Dallas Cowboys are right now. Roy Williams was not the best cover man that is for sure, but a good tackler and excellent against the run and probably would do well in a cover 2 type of defense. Cutting Roy Williams will save the Cowboys 2 million off the cap, but is it really worth it.
Now the Dallas Cowboys lost their best wide receiver they have and now probably the best secondary person who was left on the team. When Roy Williams asked to be released you knew something was just not right in Dallas. He was an All-Pro and always seem to be around the ball. The Cowboys have some big shoes to fill without much cap space to do it in. Some of these decisions make no sense, but we will see how it works out for the Cowboys and Jerry Jones.
Cowboys Cut Terrell Owens

Well the one thing that many Cowboy fans probably will disagree on today and that is was cutting Terrell Owens the best thing to do. Most people will say it was a good move, but in my opinion a very stupid move for a number of different reasons. First the Dallas Cowboys will take a 9 million dollar hit on the salary cap by releasing him. if I am going to take that kind of a hit you might as well put a uniform on him and let him play the year for you. Why take a 9 million dollar hit and get nothing for him. Secondly the Dallas Cowboys are relying on Roy Williams to be a number one receiver in Dallas. He was never the guy in Detroit or they would have never shopped him around. If Williams was such a hot commodity he would have been out of Detroit a long time ago.
Third I will admit that T.O. can be a cancer in the locker room, but the bottom line is he shows up to play on Sunday. Many players on the Dallas Cowboys do not. Some take vacations during weeks off when they should be concentrating on football. In my opinion this is a very big mistake, but we will see how it all works out for the Dallas Cowboys in the end. I think they will miss T.O. more then they realize.

Cowboys Sign Keith Brooking Lose Chris Canty

The Dallas Cowboys have signed Keith Brooking who became a free agent when he could not come to terms with the Atlanta Falcons. Brooking signed a three year deal and will bring a voice to the locker room which is what the Dallas Cowboys need right now. Brooking is a good player and should fit in well for the Cowboys, but losing Chris Canty to the Giants really hurt.
Ray Lewis was the one that the Dallas Cowboys should have went after. I know cap wise it was virtually impossible, but the Cowboys should have at least try and get room under the cap so they could get him. Ray Lewis is the kind of player that would make everyone accountable for what they need to do. This includes offense and defense side of the ball. Maybe Brooking will be able to do that, but I doubt it.

Jon Kitna for Anthony Henry Fair Trade?

Well sometimes I must admit I scratch my head and wonder what the Dallas Cowboys and especially Jerry Jones is thinking when her makes trades. I mean he brings in Roy Williams and gives away a first round pick which really did not make any sense then this trade. The Cowboys get a backup quarterback in Jon Kitna for Anthony Henry. Now do not get me wrong I have nothing against Jon Kitna and he will make a good backup quarterback compared to what we have had recently, but to give Anthony Henry away for him just makes no sense.
I am not saying Anthony Henry was the best cornerback in the world, but he is a much better cover guy then anyone else on the team including Roy Williams. For all his faults Pacman Jones was the best cover guy we had and since he is gone Henry was next. I guess Jerry Jones has some master plan at least I hope. Backup quarterbacks like Jon Kitna are all over and this is why trading a good player away really makes no sense to me.

Cowboys Need To Sign Jeff Garcia

It seems that Jeff Garcia will not be resigned by the Tampa bay Buccaneers which means he will be a free agent and can sign with anyone. The Dallas Cowboys need a capable backup to Tony Romo and Garcia would be a very good choice. You never know when your starting quarterback could get hurt and the Cowboys would have a guy that has proven he can win games and that is what you need in a backup quarterback.
These days it is tough to find backup quarterbacks that are any good and can step in when you need them to and get the job done, but Jeff Garcia is one of those. If the Cowboys are smart they will sign him as soon as possible. I am sure there will be several teams interested in Garcia's services so hopefully the Cowboys will step up to the plate and be one of the players in trying to sign him.

T.O A Raider or A Cowboy This Season

Many people have written about maybe Terrell Owens being traded to the Oakland Raiders real soon. According to various sources the Cowboys and raiders are into talks about this. Now personally I hope this does not happen as this will not really help the Dallas Cowboys much. By trading T.O. this means you are counting on Roy Williams and Patrick Crayton to get the job done for you on offense and for me that is a very scary thought. Roy Williams is a good player, but has not proven to be the guy that can do the job. Trust me if he was a great player more teams would have traded for him when he played for Detroit.
Williams has got a reputation as not a hard worker and does not practice well. This reputation goes all the way back to his days at the University of Texas as well. Williams has a lot of talent, but has not been the receiver that people thought he could be. Taking a chance by trading T.O. and make Williams the main guy is just too risky if you ask me right now.

Dallas Cowboys News And Notes
.jpg)
Flozell Adams of the Dallas Cowboys did not look good at all in the Pro Bowl and maybe he should have took it off as he did not look like the player were use too. Tony Romo has been making the rounds of different radio shows and really has not come out and said he wants Terrell Owens back which leads many people to think that T.O. could be on his way out. I personally do not believe that as Jerry Jones likes T.O. and he wants him around or he would have gotten rid of him already.
Dallas Cowboy players would be better off if they would just lay low and quit do interviews with radio stations and television stations. Everything they say is dissected and one wrong word can be turned around on them. They need to work on getting better and working towards a better season this coming year and doing all this press work is really not going to help them much.

Jason Witten Speaks At Pro Bowl

Jason Witten of the Dallas Cowboys spoke with one of the sideline reporters and basically said he wants to keep the team the way it is. I guess I should repeat that for the media he wants to keep the team intact. This means that he still wants T.O. on the team. The media has made a lot out of the friction with him and T.O and he seemed to dispel those rumors that have been circulating through various media outlets.
Witten also said the Cowboys need to finish games better especially towards the end of the season better as well. I totally agree with that the Dallas Cowboys need to learn how to finish better. I think that if the Cowboys all get on the same page and do not let outside things influence them they should be fine. Romo, T.O. and Witten will work through whatever problems they have because they want to win a championship. I guess we will see how this all works out for Witten and the Cowboys.

Three Things The Cowboys Must Do Now

Everyone is searching for answers on how to fix the Dallas Cowboys and getting them going in the right direction. I have three things they must do right away or it will be another disappointment for Cowboy fans once again.
The first thing is take care of the Terrell Owens issues. Jerry Jones needs to decide what to do with T.O. Either her keeps him and backs his star player or he is got to cut ties as soon as possible. The longer this soap opera is drug out the worse it will be for everyone involved.
The number two thing that needs to be done is bring in a defensive coordinator that knows what they are doing. The Dallas Cowboys especially on defense had to many lapses and big plays given up. They need a no nonsense guy that will take over the defense and get them playing football like they are suppose too.
Third you must have accountability and this includes players, coaches and even front office people. Unless everyone is on the same page the same results could follow. Players need to keep their mouths shut and keep everything in house if their is a problem. Airing it in the public just makes things worse. Taking care of it behind close doors is best.
Until the Dallas Cowboys address some of these issues I am afraid it could be another dreadful ending to a promising football season. I guess we will see real soon what Jerry Jones is going to do if anything.

Tony Romo Needs To Get His Act Together

Now I love Tony Romo and sometimes his erratic play I question, but the one thing he needs to do is get his act together especially off the field. It seems many times off the field distractions maybe effecting how he plays. Now I know he has this off and on again relationship with Jessica Simpson, but when you are the starting Dallas Cowboys quarterback that is your first job. There have been a long line of quarterbacks that had to do the same thing including Roger Staubach, Danny White, Troy Aikman and now Tony Romo needs to step up.
Romo got a big fat contract so now it is time to step up to the plate which means have your head 100 percent into football. Now if you and T.O. are having problems than you need also work those out. The quarterback is the team leader and is in the public eye so you will need to make sacrifices. It is not always what you may want to do, but it comes with the job. Romo can be a great quarterback, but not until he takes his job more seriously. He has been given a very special job that few have been very successful at so it is time for him to step up and do what is right and that means give 100 percent to football and not trips to exotic places during the season either.

Time To Stop The Dump T.O. Talk

It seems no matter what we do everyone is talking about Terrell Owens and dumping him. From former top stars in the NFL to even players and people in the organization. Now Terrell Owens is not my favorite player and some things he does I really do not care for, but the bottom line is he wants to win. Sure he can be a cancer if you let him and this is where the coach needs to step up. Even under Bill Parcells who Terrell Owens had a cold relationship he still was a 1000 yard receiver. You just do not pull out 1000 yard receivers out of the air. Many times a player is a cancer because coaches and the organization let him do it.
The problem the Dallas Cowboys have is Roy Williams throughout his college and pro career has been considered lazy and does not practice very well. If they get rid of T.O. then they are looking at an unproved Roy Williams as their go to wide receiver. T.O. does have his issues, but trying to work things out with him and his teammates is probably the only real answer the Cowboys have right now. Trading Roy Williams is an option that the Cowboys have and that will help them get some draft picks. The hardest part is who is willing to take Roy Williams off your hands. Keeping T.O. is something the Cowboys will have to live with at least for now.

Dan Reeves Would Have Been A Positive Force

It is a shame that the Dallas Cowboys could not have worked something out with Dan Reeves as he would have been a great addition and something the Dallas Cowboys needed. According to various sources the only reason he did not take the job was a clause in his contract which required him to work a certain amount of hours. I cannot really blame Reeves on this one as a coach you really do not have set hours so putting that in for me was just plain crazy.
Reeves would have brought in some accountability to players and others in his consulting role and maybe some in Dallas really did not want him there. I guess this right here shows how really dysfunctional the Dallas Cowboys are right now and how much help they really do need.

What To Do With Terrell Owens?

The buzz around the Pro Bowl is what is Jerry Jones going to do with Terrell Owens. Will he keep him or just let him go and move on. Owens right now has some issues with teammates and just like every family there will be differences and that is where Terrell Owens and some of the Dallas Cowboys players are at. Most people are pointing the blame right at Terrell Owens, but I am not so sure that it is all him.
Sure T.O. can be moody and many players tell that he does not really associate with a lot of players or do things with his teammates. Now the bottom line is his teammates do not have to like him all they need to do is play with him. If you ask many players who played with Barry Bonds most will tell you they could not stand him, but that did not stop them from playing with him.
Jerry Jones is going to have to find some common ground between everybody so the team can move forward. next season you just cannot have players bickering and not getting along on the field. What they do in their spare time is their own business, but when Sunday hits they need to play as a team.

Bob Hayes Finally Gets His Spot
It has been a long time coming, but Bob Hayes finally has gotten his spot in the Pro Football Hall Of Fame. Hayes deserved his spot a long time ago, but just like in any voting process you do not always get a fair shake. Hayes had some off the field issues after he retired and that in my mind had a lot to do with it taking so long to Bob Hayes in the Pro Football Hall Of Fame.
The Hall Of Fame is suppose to base your performance on the field and when Bob Hayes played their were few as good as him. Was he the greatest all around football player? No, but he changed the game in many different ways that we see today. The zone defense was design to stop Bob Hayes, but it could not as he was just to fast. People do not realize how fast Bob Hayes was and very seldom was he ever caught from behind.
Hayes deserved his spot in the Hall Of Fame a long time ago. let us hope that the Hall will start putting in many more Dallas Cowboys as I know of many7 deserving players that are just not their. Hopefully this will start a trend.

Dallas Gives Brian Stewart The Boot. Whos Next?
The Dallas Cowboys fired defensive coordinator Brian Stewart today which should really come as no surprise to Cowboy fans. After his defense was shredded by the Philadelphia Eagles and other offenses this year the writing had to be on the wall. The defense has been a major problem all year long and like I have said in many columns this needs to be priority one. Getting the defense back to where it needs to be is very important if you want to contend. Three of the teams playing this weekend have defenses ranked 1,2, and 3. This should show you how important defense is in the NFL.
I hope when they hire the next defensive coach they get a guy who knows defenses real well. I prefer a guy who has been around for a number of years that way he can get these guys playing to their abilities for a change. Whoever they do hire will have his hands full, because I can tell you it will not be easy as expectations are high every year for this team.

Defense, Defense, Defense
Now everyone seems to be talking about him and if he is going to be here next year or not. I think the area that the Dallas Cowboys need to look at it the defensive side of the ball the most. With Tank Johnson maybe gone and Pacman Jones probably out of the picture we have many issues on the defensive side f the ball. The top three defenses in the NFL are all playing in this weekend's playoff games so that should tell you something about how important defense is.
The Cowboys need secondary help in the worse way. We might have the worse secondary in the league. They seem to get toasted all the time and if you want to win championships you cannot let things like that go on. I guess we will see if the Cowboys make any upgrades I hope so.
Amos Tamam True Success Story
Upon arriving in the United States from Tel Aviv Amos Tamam knew it was not going to be easy, but he was determined. Armed with an electrical engineer degree from Tel Aviv University he knew he would have to start from the bottom and work his way up. Soon upon arriving he started servicing taxicabs in a fleet garage in new York City which he did for 30 years. Now 30 years later Amos Tamam
Mr. Tamam has been working on this technology and hopes to be able to expand it into other cities in the future. This means one day when you take a cab or even a bus they could also take your credit and even debit cards. The person you need to thank for this is Amos Tamam a young man who wanted a new adventure in the United States and it has been all he had expected and more.

Terrell Owens Could Get Cut?

If you read all the newspapers and ESPN.com you would believe that Terrell Owens is already out the door. personally I do not believe that it will happen and Dallas will keep T.O. They cannot afford to get rid of a guy who has been a 1,000 yard man for them with not knowing what Patrick Crayton and Roy Williams will give them. A roster bonus of 3 million dollars is owed T.O real soon, but look for the Dallas Cowboys to keep him.
Jerry Jones likes T.O. a lot and the other thing is defensively especially the secondary is where the Cowboys need help. The reasoning to get rid of T.O. is locker room chemistry. Well unless the coaches are blind T.O. does not play defense for the Cowboys and that is one of their main problems. Address the defense first then the T.O.situation.
Braden Power Making Dallas Better
If you are planning on any kind of move to Dallas in the near future than you will want to look up Braden Power and his company Power Properties. This company has been in business 13 years renovating Dallas properties for the betterment of the Dallas community. This company has acquired over 600 units in the Lakewood and Old East Dallas neighborhoods and have done a fine job getting them back to beautiful vibrant places to live. 2009 Dallas Cowboys Schedule Home And Away

Below I have listed the home and away schedule for the Dallas Cowboys. It is very interesting in many aspects. We have the divisional games, but other teams that we should be able to beat like Oakland, Seattle, Kansas City. We also play some very tough teams in New Orleans, Carolina, San Diego, and Tampa Bay is also tough at home. We are also going to be adding many things to the site so stop back often.
Happy New Years Cowboy Fans.
